Security of Nigeria not one man’s responsibility — Tinubu

•Shettima, Sultan, CAN, Governors, call for peaceful co-existence

President Bola Tinubu yesterday joined the Sultan of Sokoto, the Christian Association of Nigeria, Catholic Bishops of Nigeria, state governors, political leaders and other eminent Nigerians urging Nigerians to embrace peace and harmonious co-existence as the nation celebrates Eid-el-Fitr. In their separate messages on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, they called on Muslims to imbibe the spiritual lessons and blessings of Ramadan in their daily lives emphasising the need for continued piety, compassion, and social responsibility as essential tools for building a peaceful and cohesive society.

President Tinubu, in his message said “I urge citizens to continue embodying the lessons of patience, tolerance, and neighbourliness drawn from the seasons of Ramadan and Lent as a foundation for nation-building. The stability, peace and security of the nation is not just one man’s responsibility. We are all involved. The spiritual emphasis on charity and kindness to others should go beyond the fasting period. We have accepted the principles, philosophy and doctrine of giving, peace, security and love of our nation, and of neighbours, and kindness to all humanity in any way we can. We should assist the needy and help the vulnerable. May God accept our sacrifices”.

VP Shettima reassures of govt’s resolve to tackle insecurity

“We are optimistic that insecurity across the country will soon be contained through the proactive measures deployed by both the federal and state governments. There should be unity among Nigerians as the convergence of Ramadan and Lent offered a powerful moment for reflection.

National progress is inseparable from peace, Nigerians must come together to confront shared challenges such as insecurity and underdevelopment”.

Sultan Abubakar: Nigerians must rise above religious, ethnic, political differences

“There is the need for citizens to rise above religious, ethnic, and political differences in the interest of national stability and collective progress. The lessons of Ramadan sacrifice, tolerance, discipline, and compassion must not end with the fasting period but should be sustained as guiding principles for daily living.

“The essence of Ramadan is to build a society anchored on peace, mutual respect, and understanding. Nigerians must continue to live together in harmony and uphold the values that bind us as one people”.

“Let this Eid be more than a celebration. Let it be a reset for our national conscience. Nigeria’s strength lies in unity, division along religious or ethnic lines would only deepen the country’s problems. At a time like this, our nation needs unity more than ever. From insecurity to economic hardship, the challenges before us are real, but so too is our shared strength.

Nigeria works best when we stand together; not divided by faith or ethnicity, but united by a common purpose and a shared future. The spirit of Eid; kindness, sacrifice and care for others, offers us a way forward. It calls us to reject division, to choose dialogue over distrust, and to act in ways that heal rather than harm.

Such renewal must be anchored in enduring values, including sacrifice, solidarity with the poor, forgiveness, and reverence for God, which are essential for healing and national renewal”.

“I commend our Muslim faithful for their steadfast dedication, discipline, and resilience throughout the holy month of Ramadan, marked by sacrifice, prayer, and charity. It is my pray that God will continue to guide and strengthen all in righteousness, grant enduring peace, prosperity, and unity in our society, and bless our nation with harmony and progress. May the lessons of Ramadan remain with us all year round.”

Otti urges unity, sober reflection

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, in a goodwill message by his Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, described Eid-el-Fitr as a sacred period of deep reflection, spiritual renewal, and recommitment to the core values of faith, sacrifice, and compassion. He urged Muslims to fully embrace the essence of the season by strengthening their relationship with Allah and upholding virtues that promote peace, unity, and harmony within society.

The Governor further called on the Muslim community to use the occasion to foster love, tolerance, and mutual understanding among Nigerians, noting that such values remain critical to national cohesion and security.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue urges unity, peace 

“I urge Muslim faithful to continue to uphold the tenets of unity and peace and imbibe the spiritual lessons and blessings of Ramadan in their daily lives. The values of justice, fairness, equity, peaceful coexistence, tolerance, honesty, and dedication to duty, imbibed during Ramadan, would continue to guide citizens for the greater good of the nation.”

“At this critical point in our nation’s journey, I urge all Nigerians to use this moment for sober reflection on the state of our country and the role each of us must play in building a better future. From policymakers to everyday citizens, we all share a collective responsibility to contribute our quota towards making Nigeria work. While we acknowledge the challenges confronting our nation – from insecurity to economic hardship – it is important that we do not lose hope.I remain confident that, with unity of purpose and renewed commitment, there shall indeed be light at the end of the tunnel.

Nigerians facing real difficulties, but hardship won’t win — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says many Nigerians are going through tough times but insists the situation will not last, urging people to hold on to faith, resilience and unity as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Fitr. In its Eid message, the party shifts from the usual greetings to something more grounded, recognising the daily pressure on families while encouraging Nigerians not to lose hope or their sense of shared humanity at a difficult moment.

The message was contained in a statement in Friday by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC. The ADC said what many Nigerians are experiencing right now is real, but should not define the future. 

Senator Natasha prays for peace, prosperity

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) in her message described Eid al-Fitr as a significant spiritual milestone symbolizing sacrifice, devotion, and submission to Allah’s will. Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized the need to sustain virtues of patience, generosity, and selflessness, stressing they are essential for a harmonious and progressive society. She urged constituents to pray for peace, stability, and development in Kogi State and Nigeria, noting unity is key to progress.
