ABUJA – Accredited Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), under the umbrella of the Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), have warned against the emergence of unserious candidates in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The group said only credible aspirants with proven integrity, experience, and a track record of public service should seek elective offices, stressing the need for accountability in the electoral process.
In a statement issued on Sunday, CSCHEI Director-General, Kunle Yusuff, said the 2027 elections must not be reduced to a platform for unqualified or ill-prepared candidates.
According to him, the organisation plans to subject all aspirants to rigorous public scrutiny, including debates and assessments of their manifestos, to enable Nigerians make informed choices.
“We will ensure that candidates are thoroughly examined in the public space. Nigerians deserve transparency and clarity on the intentions and capacity of those seeking to lead,” he said.
CSCHEI also outlined plans to intensify voter education campaigns, monitor candidates, and deploy observers nationwide to promote credible and peaceful elections.
The group called on aspirants to demonstrate competence and commitment to national development, urging them to prioritise accountability, fairness, justice, and unity.
It further pledged to collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, election observers, the media, traditional institutions, and religious leaders to ensure transparent and credible polls in 2027.
The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying accurate information and countering misinformation throughout the election period.
