Italian star Jannik Sinner has rewritten the record books at the Miami Open, surpassing Novak Djokovic’s long-standing mark for the most consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1000 level.
The milestone was confirmed after Sinner’s commanding straight-sets victory over Corentin Moutet, where the Italian cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win at Hard Rock Stadium to move clear of Djokovic’s previous record of 24 consecutive sets set in 2016. Thus, this victory earns him a 26-consecutive sets win, two ahead of Djokovic (24) and five ahead of close competitor Carlos Alcaraz (21).
By taking the opening set against Moutet, Sinner edged past the Serbian great and extended the tally further with the win, underlining his dominance across recent Masters tournaments.
Speaking after the match, Sinner downplayed the achievement, insisting his focus remains on performance rather than records.
“I’m very happy but at the same time I don’t play for this. I’m very happy to be here. It’s been a tournament I’ve also missed last year. So I’m very happy,” he said.
Reflecting on the unpredictability of the sport, he added, “Everything can happen. This sport is unpredictable. We try to keep the attention very high, as much as we can. Then we see what’s coming in the next round.
“I’m happy about today’s performance. We’re trying to improve. No day in between off, we try to rest up. Hopefully, I’ll be ready for tomorrow.”
Sinner’s record-breaking run dates back to late 2025, beginning at the Paris Masters, where he defeated opponents including Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime en route to the title. He then carried the streak into the Indian Wells Open, beating players such as Daniil Medvedev without dropping a set.
At the ongoing Miami Open, he has continued that momentum, dispatching Damir Džumhur and Moutet to reach the fourth round, where he is set to face Alex Michelsen.
The last player to take a set off Sinner remains Tallon Griekspoor, who managed the feat during the Shanghai Masters in October 2025.
Djokovic’s previous record-breaking streak, which stood for a decade, included victories over top names such as Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic.
