A former member of the House of Representatives, Rotimi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the Ife Federal Constituency seat in the Green Chamber in the 2027 general elections, with a focus on improved welfare, security, and infrastructure development.
Makinde, who previously represented the constituency, said his track record during his time in the National Assembly positions him as a strong candidate for the role.
Speaking with newsmen, the aspirant, who plans to run on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), assured constituents of his commitment to improving their standard of living, noting that access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities would be central to his campaign.
According to him, “My track record speaks for itself. I have consistently delivered on my promises, and my commitment to the progressive family is unwavering. I have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of our constituents, and I am ready to take it to the next level.
“I initiated the modern city gate project, pushed for the establishment of the Yakooyo Hospital, and ensured the Aluti Erin Hospital project was underway. These projects will transform our community, and I am committed to seeing them through.
“I believe in unity and progress. I am willing to work with anyone who shares our vision for a better constituency. My experience and passion for public service make me an asset to any team.
“I have consistently put the needs of our constituency first. My integrity and dedication to public service are unmatched. I am not just asking for votes; I am offering a proven track record and a commitment to serve,” he said.
The former lawmaker also stressed the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of Ile-Ife, regarded as the cradle of Yoruba civilisation, noting that such traditions should be supported through legislative backing.
“I respect and value the wisdom and leadership of our traditional rulers. I am committed to working with them to address the needs of our community and ensure our traditions are preserved.
“I am ready to work with anyone who shares our vision for progress and unity, and to support the Ooni of Ife and other monarchs who have been doing a wonderful job in repositioning the ancient town. Ile-Ife needs someone like me in government,” he added.
