FG–Sokoto alliance intensifies as Gov. Aliyu moves to crush banditry

By Musa Ubandawaki

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed that the Federal Government and the Sokoto State Government are working in close collaboration to tackle insecurity and restore lasting peace in the state and the wider northwest region.

The governor made this known on Friday while paying the traditional Eid-el-Fitr Sallah homage to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, at his palace shortly after the Eid prayers in Sokoto.

Governor Aliyu assured residents that his administration has continued to provide robust logistical and operational support to security agencies, including the state-backed Community Guard Corps, to strengthen ongoing efforts to curb banditry and other security threats.

According to him, the combined efforts of federal and state authorities are aimed at consolidating peace and safeguarding lives and property across Sokoto and neighbouring states affected by criminal activities.

He called on citizens to sustain their cooperation with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in combating banditry and related crimes.

“We must also continue to offer fervent prayers for Allah’s protection over our gallant security personnel who are risking their lives in volatile areas to checkmate the activities of bandits,” the governor said.

Governor Aliyu further reassured the people of Sokoto that his administration would continue to operate an open-door policy aimed at addressing the aspirations and welfare of the populace.

He also urged Islamic scholars and clerics to intensify prayers for peace, unity and stability in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.

The governor expressed appreciation to Muslim scholars who conducted Tafseer sessions throughout the Ramadan period, describing their teachings as vital in guiding Muslims on the values and principles contained in the Holy Qur’an.

He encouraged religious leaders to continue educating Muslims on the fundamental teachings of Islam, particularly the Five Pillars of Islam, to deepen faith and strengthen moral conduct in society.

Responding, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, commended Governor Aliyu for executing numerous people-oriented projects across the state.

The monarch urged the governor to remain steadfast in delivering development and improving the welfare of citizens, assuring him of the continued support of the Sultanate Council.

“Your Excellency, do not relent in what you are doing for our state. The Sultanate Council is fully behind you,” the Sultan said.

He also praised security agencies operating in Sokoto State for their efforts in protecting lives and property, urging them to sustain the ongoing momentum against criminal elements.

The Sultan further called on Nigerians to continue praying for the country’s leaders for divine guidance in addressing the nation’s challenges.

He equally urged citizens of Sokoto State to rally behind the present administration in its drive to transform the state and strengthen peace and development.

The Sultan later hosted Governor Aliyu and members of his entourage to a luncheon at the palace.
