By Bashir Bello

A sand pit used for brick-making collapsed on Wednesday morning in Ridawa village, Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State, with several brick workers feared dead.

The incident was said to have occurred when the men were digging the sand pit for brick-making.

There are growing fears that several of the trapped workers may have died, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the collapse.

Rescue efforts have been ongoing for hours, as locals and emergency responders struggle to reach those still buried beneath the rubble.

However, as of the time of filing this report, some of the victims had yet to be rescued, raising concerns over their chances of survival.

When contacted on the development, the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, said the fire service was not formally informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, the member representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, said about 10 persons were believed to be trapped underground.

He called for urgent intervention, including the provision of a rescue vehicle to aid efforts in evacuating the victims and preventing loss of lives.
